How to make a bead pattern from a photo

  1. Upload a picture. Choose a photo or drawing (JPG, PNG, WebP). It stays on your device — nothing is uploaded.
  2. Pick your beads and board. Select Perler, Hama Midi or Artkal S, the pegboard size (29×29 pegs is standard) and how many boards wide and tall the pattern should be.
  3. Adjust colors. Limit the number of colors, use only the colors you own, enable dithering for smooth gradients and tweak brightness, contrast and saturation.
  4. Export and build. Download the PNG, the printable PDF with one page per pegboard, and the bead count list (CSV) to use as a shopping list.

Frequently asked questions

Is this bead pattern maker free?

Yes. It is free to use, with no sign-up and no watermark on the bead layout. Everything runs in your browser.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is read and processed locally in your browser with the Canvas API. Nothing is sent to a server.

Which bead brands are supported?

Perler (5 mm), Hama Midi (5 mm) and Artkal S (5 mm). Patterns use each brand's own color codes, such as P01 for Perler, H01 for Hama and S01 for Artkal.

How accurate are the bead colors?

Brands do not publish official RGB values, so the colors come from a community dataset measured from real beads (see About & credits). Matching uses CIEDE2000 in CIELAB, which tracks how people perceive color differences. Real beads can still look different under different light.

Can I make a pattern using only the beads I have?

Yes. Open "My colors", tick the colors you own and enable "Only use colors I own". Your selection is saved in this browser.

What is dithering?

Dithering mixes nearby bead colors in a pattern to imitate shades that are not in the palette. It helps with gradients and photos but can look noisy in small designs or flat graphics.

What size pegboard should I choose?

Most large square pegboards for 5 mm beads have 29×29 pegs. If yours is different, type its size in "Pegboard size" and the PDF will split the pattern accordingly.
